All meets open for volunteer sign-up!!
Good morning,
All A and B meets are now open for volunteer sign-up on the website: https://cardinalhilldive.swimtopia.com/swim_meets
Remember, A meet participation requires specific dives and is determined by our coaches each week. B meets are developmental and open to all of our divers. Please sign up accordingly. If you're unsure which meets your diver will be in, please either have them ask the coaches, or email me and I can look into it for you. Most pressing is that we still need another judge for Tuesday's A meet at Cardinal Hill.
Coach Teresa's mom, Tricia, has written the following letter about volunteering that might ease some nerves about the different jobs. Please read! :)
Good morning, dive families,
As we consider the calls for volunteers and our respective commitments, I believe it's helpful to remind ourselves of the many positive experiences our children are getting out of being on the dive team. I also encourage us to consider the potential benefits for us as volunteers: gaining a greater understanding of diving, connecting with members of our community and learning more about our own children as they challenge themselves and interact with kids who they may not have known prior to being on the team.
Below are some notes that may make volunteering more "doable":
Table workers.
- If you haven't done this before or it's been awhile, I am happy to meet with you prior to a meet to discuss how things work (5-10 minutes).
- Families could split this job so that one parent or adult sits at the table for two entire events and the other takes over for the other two events.
- Ribbon Writer. This table worker simply writes names and scores on ribbons. **Please note--You can pause your job to watch your child dive. And for those who want to take a photo or video, I'm happy to sit in for you, if I'm there.
Social
- The job could be split between two interested people. One could buy the supplies, and another could set up/serve the food.
Sound System
- The job is mostly physical in nature--getting the items from the dive closet and setting them up. Thanks to Joe, there are instructions with photos to guide you. Others and I will be at all of the meets and available to assist with the sound system, however, it is important to have someone take the lead who is not taking the lead on something else.
Judge
- This job may seem the most intimidating. I know it has for me. Just so you know, there is a lot of support--videos to watch and others who can coach you. I've never done it, but plan to watch some videos and try it at least one meet. Remember, there is a reason the highest and lowest scores are tossed.

Announcer
- If you're a tiny bit interested, a B meet is the place to try. Again, people can help you. I tried it.
Though my daughter, Teresa, is no longer eligible to dive for Cardinal Hill, I plan to work with Kate as meet manager through the summer. Kate has graciously stepped forward to take my place even though she has never been a table worker--her first time will be Tuesday.
